Hook Punch Defense: Outside 360 Deflections & Simultaneous Counterattack (Yellow Belt)

360 Outside Defense Positions for Instinctive Punch Interceptions (Yellow Belt)

Position 1. Cross your forearms at 90° angles above your head slightly out in front to form a protective shield around the top and sides of your head.

Position 2. With your elbows bent at 90° angles, lower your arms until your forearms are at a 45° from the ground and rotated slightly outward with your palms facing out.

Position 3. From position 2, with your elbows bent at 90° angles, lower your forearms arms to chest level, with your palms facing slightly out facing out.

Position 4. Draw your elbows against your sides with your finger tips facing up.

Position 5. With your arms bent at 90° angles, lower your fingertips toward the ground with your palms facing back.

Position 6. With your elbows bent t 90°, adjust your forearms at 45° angles and bend forward slightly from the hips.

Position 7. From position 6, place one forearm on top of the other, with your arms bent at 90° angles and your forearms parallel to the ground.  Lean forward. Move your hips as far back as possible to guard your body from an incoming attack.

360 degree defense execution of deflections #1-7

  • Be sure with #1 outside deflection to tuck your chin into shoulder and rotate arm forcefully out keeping bend in the elbow.
  • Be sure to deflect out with #2-4 blocks rotating the arm.
  • Try to move away from the strike as you counter-strike.
  • Be sure with #8 to lean forward with proper L arm positioning and not have the legs staggered but in a neutral stance.
