Front Choke Defense: Preemptive Combatives (Yellow Belt)

A choke can quickly render you unconscious or worse.  Of course, if you recognize someone attempting to choke you, you could preempt the attacker by using a lower-body long-range kick, an upper-body counterattack, or deflecting the attacker’s hands as the attacker reaches for your throat. Longer range combative kicks usually work best:

  • Straight kicks
  • Side kicks

To deflect you can simply slap his arms down as he reaches for your throat.  Note, the L deflection works well (learned at the orange belt level).
