Flying/Leaping kicks 

  • Flying knee (start with kneeing/kicking leg forward, step with other leg for jump, bring jumping leg to chest while kicking with non-jumping leg)
  • Flying front kicks (same as above)
  • Flying roundhouse kick (regular or scissors jump)
  • Flying side kick (regular or scissors jump)
  • Flying spinning back roundhouse (heel) kick using rear leg to kick

Defending a Surprise Charging Attack

Defending while Down and Attacker Standing including Two Attackers with Following Options:

  • From a distance  scissors to front of knee
  • Open attacker’s legs wedging out
  • Kick blocks against kicks
  • Side kick to base leg
  • Sweep to base leg
  • Stop kick to kicking leg
  • Back roll into fighting stance
  • How to get up

Defenses Engaged against One Opponent and Second Opponent Launches Surprise Attack

Kick Attacks Combined with Other Combatives

  • Flying front kick, while in the air, grab opponent and hammerfist or other punch
  • Two or three flying kicks and continue as #1 above
  • Front kick, spin and jump and crescent or roundhouse kick with the same leg
  • Burst inside, defensive front kick with double straight punches. Note: the double straight punches used in this defense serve as inside or outside sliding defenses (depending on opponent’s angle) and end in an attack.

  • Tsai-bake turning away from kick into gunt and reverse knee lock by continuing tsai-bake in opposite direction

Defending against Opponent Attacking Using Different Strikes with Opponent’s Hooks In

Advanced Defenses against Two Armed Assailants

  • One assailant is armed with a club, the other with a knife. Note:  defending against the club is preferable, however, circumstances – proximity – may dictate defending the knife first.
  • Two assailants armed with knives
  • Two assailants armed with clubs

Note:  Defender needs to initiate and close distance between attackers.

General Fighting Principals:

  1. defender should initiate the action – do not wait to be attacked
  2. defender should move to use distance to his advantage
  • defender should avoid turning his back to the attacker especially when close
  1. when appropriate, use one attacker as a shield against the other
  2. when appropriate, disarm one attacker and use the weapon against the other attacker
  3. Do not allow one attacker to hold two weapons

Fighting Tactics

  • Move to dead side or opening to neutralize further attack
  • Action to limit his hands and legs
    1. Attack with edge of the body (break fingers/knee disable)
    2. Catch fingers and break
    3. Tie hands
    4. Kick (axe) or otherwise trap hands and attack
  • Opponent is standing waiting for attack
    1. Attack with body movements (do not stay in one position)
    2. Change rhythm from slow to fast
    3. Limit hands and legs and head from moving by catching and trapping

Vehicle Safety

  • Most vulnerable at
  1. Highway exit ramps
  2. Intersections controlled by stoplights or signs
  3. Isolated garages or parking lots
  4. Park and ride lots for mass transportation
  5. Self-service gas stations or car washes
  6. Residential driveways
  7. ATMs
  8. Drive-through bank lanes
  9. Any other location where you must come to a stop
  • No hitchhiking
  • Trust your instincts
  • Be wary in a parking lot of people asking questions or handing out flyers in close proximity to you
  • Watch passenger
  • Open door twice to make sure of escape
  • Don’t disclose final destination
  • React when the car is slows
  • Look for weapons of opportunity
  • Look into rear seat, in another person is present
  • If break-out of window is necessary, use elbow with jacket or other useful tool
  • Defenses against seatbelt chokes
  • Place seat all the way back (not reclining)
  • Let the attacker have the car
  • Techniques while driving  using brakes and turns, sudden loud music
  1. Don’t tailgate see rear tires of car in front of you
  2. Drive in center lane making it harder for carjackers to approach you
  3. If you are bumped by another car, survey the area before you get out. See if there are other vehicles or people around to observe the event
  4. Use mirrors to observe who and what type of vehicle hit you
  5. If you get of the vehicle take your keys and vital possessions with you
  • Park in well-lit locations near building entrances or walkways with heavy pedestrian traffic
  • Avoid parking near dumpsters, wooded areas, large vehicles or anything else that may afford a place for an assailant to hide.
  • Put valuables away in trunk or hide under something
  • Always look around before you egress the vehicle

Included in this course are an array of select blackbelt techniques.  The viewer will note the curriculum places a heavy emphasis on advanced weapon defenses at this level.  Not included are several flying kicks and knees (you may preview a Straight Flying Knee in the Yellow Belt Curriculum lesson.)
